Enrichment
The cornerstone of Foundation funding lies within Educational Enrichment—a program designed to help area school districts address critical public education needs and improve the quality of education for Northern New Mexico children by investing in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Qualifying STEM Education activities are in the areas of teacher professional development, curriculum enhancement, educational technology and student support.
Educational Enrichment funds are non-competitive and are awarded to school districts using a census of Laboratory and contractor employees residing within a given school district in Northern New Mexico. From the workforce data and funding available, school districts are notified of their eligibility and the funds available. Each eligible school district is must submit a proposal to the Foundation defining what programs, resources or equipment would enrich STEM education in their district. Proposals that do not meet the Foundation’s donor restrictions will not be funded.
In 2011, the LANL Foundation invested $2,400,000 in Educational Enrichment awards to support STEM education in qualifying NNM school districts. (Click here to see the 2011 Educational Enrichment grantees.)
