EPS Technology Committee
The LANL Foundation formed the EPS Technology Committee
in 2005 to address the immediate and long-range needs
of the Information Technology Program at Española
Public Schools including infrastructure, equipment, personnel,
training, and technology-supported instruction.
Led by EPS Superintendent Dr. David Cockerham, the Technology
Committee has developed strategic action plans and long-range
technology solutions that will ensure network stability
and efficiency (hardware/software/communications), staff
performance and retainment, technology-supported instruction
for staff and students, and IT growth (professional development/innovation).
With the recommendation of the Technology Committee in
2006, the LANL Foundation contracted with John Lucero
and Efinity
Educational Services to provide these
long-range solutions. Initial solutions have included
the establishment of a help desk, the completion of a
district-wide standardization project, Erate funding
for Year 9, Efinity team staffing and management, deployment
of automated tools, and the development of critical documents,
policies and procedures including the 2006-2009 EPS Technology
Plan.
With infrastructure stability, efficiency and reliability,
LANL Foundation staff has begun to work with Northern
New Mexico College to develop a technology-supported
instruction plan for 2006-2007. A NETS (Northern-Espanola
Technology Support)
charter and team (curriculum planning committee) have
been established, and 100-, 200-, and 400-level course
content has been developed with cohorts and timelines
identified.
Committee members include John Lucero of Efinity Educational
Services; Dr. David Cockerham and Charlene Sanchez of
EPS; Nicolla Covey and Susan Herrera of the LANL Foundation;
Jerry Lopez and Bruce Peterson of Los Alamos National
Laboratory; and Dr. Daniel McLaughlin and Tamara Lopez
of Northern New Mexico College.
