Science Resource Center
One of the key components facilitating science inquiry in ISEC schools is the use of science kits. The kits that ISEC has chosen provide the hands-on materials and associated carefully planned investigations and assessments designed to facilitate in-depth learning. The Science Resource Center (SRC) manages the purchase of kits, catalogs kit items, prepares them to be sent to the schools, refurbishes kits after they have been used, and coordinates the distribution of the kits to the schools.
The kits were all developed with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) come from three sources:
The Full Option Science System (FOSS) was developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and is published by School Specialty Science Delta Education.
Insights were developed by the Education Development Center’s (EDC) Center for Science Education and are published by the Kendall Hunt Publishing Company.
Science and Technology for Children (STC) was developed by the National Science Resources Center at the Smithsonian Institution and is published by the Carolina Biological Supply Company.
