FOUNDATIONS: Kieran Sequoia, LANL Scholar

Most may think LANL Foundation Scholarships are just awarded to graduating high school seniors in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree–but did you know that donations to this fund also support adult learners who are making a career change that requires an Associate degree or certification?

Kieran Sequoia received a Career Pathways Scholarship in July 2020 to pursue an Associate degree in Respiratory Care at Santa Fe Community College. A first-generation college student, Kieran received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the College of Santa Fe in 2009 and worked in the film industry for a number of years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began to reevaluate her life and career, and decided to go back to school to learn new skills she could use to support her community.

“There is nothing more essential to life than breath. Earning an AAS in respiratory therapy will mean that I have found a career that allows me to give back to the community I love, in the most essential way,” Kieran said.
