Scholarship Changes & Call for Applications for Career Pathways & Tribal Business Awards

The LANL Foundation and Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF) advisory committee have recently made changes in two scholarship categories that fund higher learning for Northern New Mexico residents.

“We’re reexamining our scholarships and revising the criteria to directly reflect the needs of local students,” said Mike Ammerman, LANL Foundation scholarship program manager. “Our objective is to provide a broad range of scholarships that are relevant to students across the spectrum of educational and career advancement.”

The newly renamed Career Pathways Scholarship, formerly called the Regional College/Returning Student (RCRS) Scholarship for nontraditional students, will still provide $1500 awards for two-year degrees, certifications, and trades but now no longer requires applicants to have a gap in formal education.

Current high school seniors and anyone who has earned a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency (HSE) may apply for a Career Pathways Scholarship to help fund an associate’s degree or professional certification. These awards may be renewed for a second year and a total of $3000 without the need to reapply, as long as certain criteria are met.

Northern NM Tribal Business Scholarships offer 1500 awards to qualified members of a local Pueblo or Tribe currently pursuing undergraduate degrees in business-related fields.

As with all LANL Foundation/LAESF scholarships, students must be a resident of the Northern New Mexico seven-county area that includes Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe or Taos. Funding may be applied to any accredited post-secondary educational institution, in or out of state.

Tribal Business Scholarships and Career Pathways Scholarships have separate criteria and applications currently accepted online at www.lanlfoundation.org/scholarships.

The deadline to apply for Career Pathways Scholarships is May 31, 2019. Deadline for Tribal Business Scholarships is June 15.

Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund is managed by the LANL Foundation, with oversight provided by an advisory committee of volunteer donors. Scholarships are funded by contributions from Los Alamos National Laboratory employees, retirees, and contractors, as well as local businesses and community members.
